The lodge blends into the surrounding nature. It is as if the ground of the hill has just been lifted a little to slip the house under it.
The architecture is a unique combination of traditional vernacular building techniques with modern minimalistic design.
Brothers and Architects, Damien and Xavier Huyberechts combined their vast experience and passion for nature to create this unique living environment.
The house was imagined for wellbeing, both for family and friends living together and for individual replenishment and respite.
It offers a multitude of different atmospheres for different activities to take place all along the day.
Waking up to the morning light and the sounds of awakening nature.
Days filled with activities for some and quiet and laziness for others.
Sundowners from the patio leading to the evening braai and dinner where many stories will be shared around good food and wine, late into the night.
Evenings ending with stargazing from the roof, observing the immensity of the universe, and the miracle of life in all its forms.

The water is naturally filtered by plants in two adjacent ponds. The plants oxygenate the water and eat the nutrients from the water, avoiding algae to spread. The result is a clean natural fresh water pool without chemicals in it.
This area also serves as an ideal spot to watch a great variety of birds attracted by the water.
Green & Off the grid
Aiming for a Sustainable green building with a small carbon footprint, the house was made with materials found on site, from unused waste or kept rough and with low energy modification.
Using natural lime only where required, almost no cement was used.
Unexperienced labour was taught the unusual building techniques used to erect the house.
The House is off the grid, producing its own electricity, hot water and treating the waste water before giving it back to the earth.
Thick rammed earth walls, stone and clay walls, earth bricks walls, sandbag walls, green roofs and stone floors, all help regulate the wide temperature amplitude of the days and seasons avoiding the need for mechanical air-conditioning.
Our resident housekeeper, on top of knowing the workings of the house, will keep the house clean and tide, make the beds and wash the dishes. She will be available 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.
Additional service by arrangement.
Incredible home for a full holiday experience. All your senses will be blown away: the landscapes and animals are amazing, you will taste freshly produced vegetables from the garden, you will have the opportunity to drive/walk/horseback ride at the heart of the park, and listen to the sound of a quiet, secluded area. On top of the cake: the most beautiful view of the night skies and stars you could ever imagine. Great for discovering, opening your mind and get closer to nature. Great GREAT hosts, super comfortable contemporary architect house. Back to the roots with luxury comfort: who would dream of a better way to spend your holiday?
Blown away by Witklipfontein game lodge, just 1h30 from Joburg, by Parys. Total reconnection with nature in this beautifully designed and planned ecolodge. Not only the house is built to fit in with its natural environment but the area is an heritage site surrounded by hills made by a huge meteorite millions years ago, the vegetable garden is stunning and simply delicious (tasted and approved), the children got a taste of farm life petting goats and of bush life spotting zebras, bucks and giraffes, the owners are so kind and friendly. Un coup de coeur!
